Sweetheart (Valentine) Dinner

by Adjutant Court Bradbury

Every year for the past five years the Post has prepared our sweethearts a dinner to show our appreciation for all their assistance and help.

This year our dinner will be held on February 12, 2003. Social hour will start at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. The menu will be spaghetti, salad and garlic bread--all you can eat.

We welcome all your friends and family. Don't forget those grandkids--we have plenty of room and food. It's a great time to show prospective members that we have a great family and have fun!

We ask that you make reservations by calling the Auxiliary President Bonnie Chavoya, (530)885-6378 or Post Commander John Blazevic (530)823-1951. This will allow us to ensure enough food and seating.

As we all know a Post can not exist without a very active Auxiliary--let's show them just how much we care!

Any Post member that would like to assist with the dinner please call Adjutant Court Bradbury at (530)888-8188.

We will need members to set up the hall, and clean up after. Also, please bring a raffle gift. This will offset the cost of the dinner and allow us to continue offering a free dinner.

Come out and have a great dinner and good fellowship!

"I Am Not A Number!" Campaign

Item from Department Web Site
Work continues on development of a national campaign to assist Posts in obtaining names and photos of veterans awaiting health care in VA medical facilities for far too long as part of the 300,000 backlog of patients. The objective is to fill books with names and photos of veterans to present to Congress during the March 2003 Legislative Conference in Washington DC. A stack of forms for each Congressional district will bring the problem home in a very real way to lawmakers. Mandatory funding and enough of it, to enable the VA to staff its facilities are needed, is the solution. Campaign booklets should be mailed to all posts in early November.

VA & R Chairman

By: Auxiliary Unit 84 Ruth Gray

First of all, I want to thank all of you who dontated items for the Veterans at the Reno Hospital and at the Yountville Home. And thanks to the ladies who sorted them and packed them to send. Everything and everyone is much appreciated.

Department VA & R Chairman, Melanie Taylor is asking all Unit Chairmen to compile a Unit Christmas report on all our veterans activites. Included, we need the total number of volunteers, total hours, total expenditures and total number of veterans served in each VA Facility, Field Service and Home Service categories.

I need this information as soon after Christmas as you can get it to me. The district chairman needs it by January 10, 2003. I know many of you have done a lot and we need to report it to Department who in turn will report it to National. Please send this information to Ruth Gray, 450 Gladycon Rd., #53, Colfax, CA 95713. Or telephone at (530)346-9433. I can also accept email :rogray@vfr.net, or fax(530)346-9485. Thank you all in advance.

Also, I have information sending greetings and mesages to our service men and women. This came from the "Dear Abby" column and is in cooperation with Department of Defense. A computer can be used to send an e-mail. You can type in .www.OperationdearAbby.net or click on this link. This is the alternative to the previous program of sending cards which had to be suspended for safety reasons. This came from Edward A Pardini, Deputy Director, Military Postal Service Agency, Department of Defense. This Website is safe, secure and accessible for all members of the armed forces deployed worldwide.

I intend to send a message from our Unit 84 as a whole and hope that some of you will be able to send a message which, I am sure, will be much appreciated. Keep track of this also.

Thanks again, and I wish you all a very Happy Holiday Season.
